Dr. Harold Katner has worked with Mercer Medicine since 1985, serving as an infectious disease care provider and an educator. Originally from New Orleans, Dr. Katner received a Doctor of Medicine from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He completed his medical internship and residency at the University Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana, and a fellowship in infectious diseases at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital and Clinic in New Orleans.
Dr. Katner is dedicated to community education and work, including over 500 HIV prevention programs for adolescents from fifth grade to college level. He’s been recognized with numerous awards for his commitment to community service and HIV research.
Dr. Katner is married and has three children with his first wife, Velia, who passed away in 2005. He also has two children with his second wife, Malou. Dr. Katner’s son, Teddy, is a Mercer University School of Medicine graduate and is now teaching and practicing in Morgantown, West Virginia.
Dr. Katner was named one of Georgia Trend magazines Top Doctors in 2020.
