What Can I Expect When Scheduling a Virtual Appointment?

Telehealth is not a new concept, and more and more people are scheduling virtual appointments. We are fortunate to live in a world where technology can help us stay home during a pandemic or avoid a long drive to see a specialist. When you’re used to going to the doctor, however, you might be apprehensive about scheduling a virtual appointment. Here’s a little bit of information as to how a virtual appointment will work.

  1. You’ll be asked to “check in” early. Though your waiting room will be virtual and not physical, you will still need to check in early so that the provider will know you have “arrived” for your appointment. When you make the appointment, the staff member you speak to will provide details about how to check in and how early you’ll need to do so.
  2. Your provider will be able to see you. You’ll be in the comfort of your home, but remember that you’ll be visible to your doctor. Make sure to wear something you would be comfortable being seen in!
  3. The connection may not be perfect. Depending on your internet connection, the video and/or audio may sometimes skip or go in and out. If your doctor says something and you don’t hear it because of a skip (or any other reason), don’t hesitate to ask for it to be repeated! Our main priority is to make sure you get the information and care you need, so it is not a problem to repeat information when necessary. If your connection is so poor that nothing seems to get through, you may need to call our office to find another solution.
